Sony has unveiled the long-awaited and highly anticipated next-generation PlayStation – the PS5. In what was one of the most watched gaming events in history, over 4 million people tuned into the livestream at 6am EDT. On top of previously announced tech specs, Sony debuted the console, accessories, new games, and further technical specifications – however, no word on pricing or launch date. Simply, Summer/Christmas this year.
Find all of the information about the console and games below.
Design, Hardware and Accessories
Design
The first design element that will be noticeable from the imagery is that Sony is releasing two PS5 models. Although there has been a surge towards online downloads through the PlayStation and Microsoft Stores, with temptations of free games each month for PS+ and Xbox Live Subscribers, there is still a strong demand for physical disc copies of games. Therefore, the PS5 will support both disc-based and downloadable games by launching the PlayStation 5 with a 4K Blu-Ray Disc Drive and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition with no Disc Drive.
Matching the matte white and black DualSense controller released a few months ago, the PS5 has stunning curves and that look phenomenal in an upright position (as Sony suggests it is positioned). Aside from the looks, the console is the one of the largest designed across the next-generation PlayStation & Xbox lineups, with the actual size comparisons being discussed on Reddit.
